- diz tu primeiro...
- sim, eu acredito em Deus. - disse a Diana.
My daughter tells me many times that she's a bit shy when it comes to tell her mates about Jesus, or even when she has to say that we don't do certain things on Sabbath, because it's a sacred and special day. We've talked about this many times now, and I've tried to make sure that she feels that she has to trust her beliefs. We must never be ashamed of our life principles and our beliefs, wether they are about religion or any other. I was taught this way and that's how I teach my kids. In this life, we must be firm, otherwise we'll be easy targets to prejudice and laughter.
I felt so happy when, yesterday, my little girl told me she found the guts to ask her best friend at school if she believed in God.
A 6 year old is already aware of the ridicule, so her friend answered:
- you first...
- yes, I believe in God. - Diana said.
Her friend paused, and then, with no fear of being diferent anymore, she said:
- I do to.
- so maybe you could come with me to church, one day!
Her friend told her no right away, but the fearful Diana that started this conversation had been left behind, and she answered back:
- but you know, we have these activities, and they tell us stories and we sing. It's realy cool!
And instead of closing the door, her friend left the door open.
We can be missionaries at 6 year old. And, as they say, it's only hard the first time.
Breaking the barrier of the fear to be diferent, of talking about unusual things.
I was proud of my little girl.
